Welcome to the Faculty Center!I'm Dr. Julie-Ann McFann, also known as the Fairy Godmother to Academic Women, and I have been helping women in higher education succeed in their careers (and still have a life at the same time) for over 10 years.
After being a professor and faculty development specialist at large and small universities, I decided that the best way to support academic women in achieving their professional and personal goals is outside the confines of the still-male-dominated environment called the university.
There is a lot of literature showing that academic women have a harder time finding a good mentor than men. Now, I can't provide one-to-one mentor coaching to everyone, but I can create a community where women talk things over with each other. You might say that The Faculty Center is my version of the old-fashioned notion of sewing circles and quilting bees. The times and technology have changed, but there is still a need for women to connect with each other.
